On 20th May 1927 the American aviator Charles Augustus Lindbergh made the first solo nonstop flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Other pilots had crossed the Atlantic before him but Charles Lindbergh was the first person to do it alone nonstop.  His astonishing feat gained him immediate international fame.
