On This Day 63 Years Ago – Hillary & Tenzing First to Conquer Mount Everest

On 29th May 1953 the New Zealander Edmund Hillary and the Nepalese Sherpa Tenzing Norgay become the first to reach the summit of Mount Everest on the Nepal-Tibet border! What a wonderful birthday present for Tenzing who reached the age of 39 on this day! They reached the top of the world at 11:30 local time after a grueling climb up the southern face.
