2019-04-04: Salsa Bailando Thursdays at Drift Southsea!

The Drift Bar in Southsea is the venue for Bailando every Thursday run by DALE Afro Latin Entertainment from 10pm to 3am. When I arrive around 10:30pm for the salsa dancing upstairs there are usually plenty of people who attended the earlier bachata lessons from 8:30 to 10pm staying on for an hour or so to practice to bachata music. Around 11pm salsa is added to the mix and people start coming up from downstairs particularly when it get crowded. Members of The Portsmouth University Salsa Club usually arrive around 11pm.

Recently salsa tracks have started earlier than 11pm and played more often which is most welcome to those of us who prefer the real thing! 😉
Sometimes there are not so many staying on from the earlier bachata lesson.

Sometimes many ladies come up later for a dance or two.

Sometimes the room empties around 11:30 and sometime people stay until much later.

This means the event is a bit of a mystery tour which makes it exciting whatever happens! It used to be a free mystery tour before 11pm – £2 after – but now it costs £2 from 10pm onwards. It’s still good value for money though!

Parking: There’s plenty of parking round the back in the Ashby Place car park.

More details may be seen on the facebook page Dale Afro Latin Entertainment.

Dilshad & Asia run salsa & bachata lessons followed by social dancing at Drift every Monday from 8pm to midnight.

Philip Wake shared a post — feeling happy. 4Apr Â·

The Drift mystery tour took a good turn tonight – two lovely salseras turned up who I hadn’t danced with for many months: Goreti & Beata – two excellent dances that would have made my night complete in themselves but Marsh was there too to finish me off. I had a few more dances with various ladies – one of which was great fun because of the energetic enthusiasm of the lady! Then I had bachata dances with Emily & Toni.- both beginners but they demonstrated a talent for dancing by following very well. Just love it when that happens. I won’t mention the merry lady who nearly broke my wrists with her dancing moves & turns which bore no resemblance to any lead I cared to make but I do like to see a girl willing to have a go! Lol
