Rueda de Casino is a fun format for learning Cuban salsa moves. All Cuban moves have a name so that when the teacher calls out the name of the next move for all couples in the circle to follow, everybody knows what to do – in theory at least. For example Dame Uno means: “Move on anti-clockwise to the next lady!” and Dame Dos means: “Move on to the 2nd lady!”. The lesson begins with a demonstration and practice of each move to be used in the lesson for those who are new to rueda and as a reminder to the others. A list of moves for beginner may be found at wikibooks.org/wiki/Rueda_de_Casino/Moves_for_Beginners and comprehensive list of moves may be found at salsaclass.co.uk/rueda_calls.htm

Philip Wake What a fantastic salsa party at 113 The Art Coffee House hosted by Kasia featuring the motivational music of DJ Hazel – didn’t stop dancing for two hours! I haven’t danced with Kasia for ages so it was exquisite to have three in one night including the last dance which was our joint favourite salsa track. I haven’t danced with Hazel for a while either so it was good to sneak one in towards the end. Looks like I’ll be going salsa dancing 6 nights a week from now on . . . as I used to from 2004 to 2008 during my early years of salsa dancing before I got married to my 2nd wife . . .
