2020-01-30: Salsa Bailando Thursdays at Drift Southsea!

The Drift Bar in Southsea is the venue for Bailando every Thursday run by DALE Afro Latin Entertainment from 10pm to 1am. When I arrive around 10pm for the salsa dancing upstairs there are usually plenty of people who attended the earlier bachata lessons from 8:30 to 10pm staying on for half an hour or so to practice to bachata music. Around 10:30pm salsa is added to the mix and people start coming up from downstairs particularly when it gets crowded. Many members of Kasia Rajka‘s salsa family (Salsa Solent Portsmouth) are usually there and members of The UoP Cuban Salsa Society ‘Sonrisas Salseros’ usually arrive around 11pm. DJ Hazel provides the music upstairs while DJunior takes care of downstairs.

Venue: Drift Bar at 78 Palmerston Road, Southsea, PO5 3PT

Parking: There’s plenty of parking round the back in Ashby Place Car Park.

Entrance: £2 after 10pm

More details may be seen on the facebook page: Dale Afro Latin Entertainment.

Dilshad & Asia run salsa & bachata lessons followed by social dancing at Drift every Monday from 8pm to midnight.

Bailando Upstairs at Drift in Southsea with DALE Afro Latin Entertainment and DJ Hazel
There weren’t quite as many as last week doing the bachata lesson when I arrived around 10pm – I counted 42 – but nevertheless had a good time as usual. I could hardly wait to dance salsa with some of my favourite salseras as I had a few bachatas to warm up. Then I had some excellent salsa dances with Goreti, BeataNikoletta and some other charming ladies. ❤️
I noticed one lady having a go at the bachata movement as I passed by so I offered to dance with her. Her boy friend encouraged her to dance with me so she decided to have a go. She did very well with lots of energy and style. She told me while we were dancing that she wanted to learn how to dance salsa so I gave her a salsa dance too which went quite well again with lots of energy and style. She thanked me for my patience and I decided to go home as dancing with her had been such good fun and a good note on which to end the evening. ❤️
As I walked through downstairs a girl recognised me saying: “You’re Salsa Superman aren’t you? You’re such a good dancer – will you dance with me?” Appreciating the compliment with a big smile I suggested she came upstairs next Thursday and said that I would love to give her a salsa dance! She said that she would with a smile on her face. ❤️
