The Drift Bar in Southsea is the venue for Bailando every Thursday run by DALE Afro Latin Entertainment from 10pm to 1am. When I arrive around 10pm for the salsa dancing upstairs there are usually plenty of people who attended the earlier bachata lessons from 8:30 to 10pm staying on for half an hour or so to practice to bachata music. Around 10:30pm salsa is added to the mix and people start coming up from downstairs particularly when it gets crowded. Many members of Kasia Rajka‘s salsa family (Salsa Solent Portsmouth) are usually there and members of The UoP Cuban Salsa Society ‘Sonrisas Salseros’ usually arrive around 11pm. DJ Hazel provides the music upstairs while DJunior takes care of downstairs.

Parking: There’s plenty of parking round the back in Ashby Place Car Park.

Bailando at Drift in Southsea upstairs with DJ Hazel playing a fine selection of music to keep us dancing all night!
There were 41 doing the bachata lessons tonight and most of them stayed on to practice. I kept on dancing bachata until the salsa music started up and then danced with some of my favourite salseras including Beata, Goreti & Agnieska and with many other charming ladies.
I noticed a beginner looking puzzled dancing salsa and not doing very well which surprised me because she had followed me quite well when I danced a bachata with her.. I had a salsa with her and managed to lead her to dance with confidence and pleasure. just remember ladies, if one man can give you a good dance, when you have a bad one it’s not your fault, it’s a question of how good your lead is!
I tried dancing bachata with a crazy lady who just did whatever came into her head and then had a good one with Mindi. Nikoletta turned up around midnight and gave me a fine salsa to finish me off nicely! ❤️
