The Latin Collective boast that Scalalatina is The UKs Biggest Latin club night with 1200+ people at each event! It’s an all night event held on a Sunday at Scala from 6pm to 6am. There are workshops by the most famous teachers in the world until 9pm and then the party night from 9:30 until 6am including three world class performances on the stage in the main room at 11:30 and another three at 00:30. I wouldn’t miss going to this party night any more than I would miss going to the monthly El Grande one!
There are 4 rooms for salsa (main room), bachata (top floor), kizomba (reception room) & cubana (middle floor). Entry is £15 for the party night whether you do the lesson at 9:30pm or not (£12 if you have a copy of the facebook event cover photo). The venue is Scala just a few hundred yards down the road from King’s Cross St. Pancras Tube Station at 275 Pentonville Rd, Kings Cross, London N1 9NL. There’s always somewhere to park for free in the surrounding roads – you just have to drive round until you find somewhere.
I arrived at 9:30pm and attended the improvers’ lesson by Joseph Davids just for fun and to warm up as I don’t normally do lessons but I’m glad I did this one to experience Joseph‘s teaching methods and humour – in particular his emphasis on
- the man leading well by getting out of the lady’s way, giving her the right momentum for the next move and keeping the centre of gravity between the two of you and
- the lady following well, using things like hair combing to get her arms out of the way of hitting the man rather than for the sake of styling.
The next event is the Scalalatina Spring Spectacular Allnighter on Sunday 27th May and I will definitely be going!
