SPARE KEY BLOWS CAR

I have a Mitsubishi Carisma Elegance DI-D 2003, 5 Door Hatchback, March 2003, 1870cc car which does 60 miles per gallon which means for example I can drive to London and back for less than £15. It is therefore a valuable asset which is essential to the pleasure of this gentleman of leisure – that is to his salsa dancing – for which driving to Portsmouth, Bournemouth, Reading, London, or Brighton 5 nights a week is standard!
I lost my main car key on Tuesday so on Wednesday I called out a mobile key cutting service to provide me with a new one. The old one was falling to pieces anyway and I’m surprised the transponder had survived the melting & superglue that had been necessary to keep the plastic head on the metal shaft.
He came yesterday around 4pm and the key cutting went well but when he tried to reprogram the ECU with the new transponder it failed. He tried doing the original key and that failed too. When we tried to start the car it wouldn’t. He said the immobiliser had kicked in and needed to have the ignition on for 35 minutes to reset it. As he had urgent jobs to do – people stuck on the road miles from home without a key – he said he had to leave that to me with the promise of returning on Friday to finish the job. I waited for 35 minutes but the car would still not start. I called him back and he agreed to come at 6:30am this morning instead. He’s on the way now so I’m just hoping that it’s all going to work out as the very purpose of my life is at stake!
