2018-12-20: Salsa Bailando at Drift in Southsea on Thursdays – Christmas Party!

The Drift Bar in Southsea is the venue for Bailando every Thursday run by DALE Afro Latin Entertainment from 10pm to 3am. When I arrive around 10:30pm for the salsa dancing upstairs there are usually plenty of people who attended the earlier bachata lessons from 8 to 10pm staying on for an hour or so to practice to bachata music. Around 11pm the salsa music begins and people start arriving from downstairs particularly when it get crowded. Members of The Portsmouth University Salsa Club usually arrive around 11pm.

Recently salsa tracks have started earlier than 11pm and played more often which is most welcome to those of us who prefer the real thing! 😉
Sometimes there are not so many staying on from the earlier bachata lesson.

Sometimes many ladies come up later for a dance or two.

Sometimes the room empties around 12:30 and sometime people stay until much later.

This means the event is a bit of a mystery tour which makes it exciting whatever happens!

The Drift mystery tour was amazing tonight – had lots of lovely dances with Hazel, Sarah, Goreti, Beata, Ileana, Aude and many others. Then when I left I bumped into an interesting young lady who remembered dancing with me in a church a while ago. We had a lingering conversation in which she said she liked a genuine man who didn’t pretend to be somebody else – just take me or leave me – dance with me or don’t. Looks like we’re going to be close friends from some other things she said to me! Connecting with such a genuine person at the end of a lovely evening of dancing made tonight’s mystery tour complete!

Philip Wake Anybody remember where that salsa venue in a pub that used to be a church is?
