The Drift Bar in Southsea is the venue for Bailando every Thursday run by DALE Afro Latin Entertainment from 10pm to 3am. When I arrive around 10pm for the salsa dancing upstairs there are usually plenty of people who attended the earlier bachata lessons from 8:30 to 10pm staying on for an hour or so to practice to bachata music. Around 11pm salsa is added to the mix and people start coming up from downstairs particularly when it get crowded. Members of The Portsmouth University Salsa Club usually arrive around 11pm. DJ Hazel provides the music upstairs while DJunior takes care of downstairs.
Kasia Rajka and members of her Salsa Solent Portsmouth group have recently arrived around 10pm after their Thursday lessons to practice their rueda & cubana skills downstairs before going upstairs.
Salsa tracks have been starting earlier than 11pm and played more often which is most welcome to those of us who prefer the real thing! 😉
Sometimes there are not so many staying on from the earlier bachata lesson.
Sometimes many ladies come up later for a dance or two.
Sometimes the room empties around 11:30 and sometime people stay until much later.
Many of those attending Kasia Rajka new event at the Art Coffee House on Tuesdays now attend every week (from August 2019)!
This means the event is a bit of a mystery tour which makes it exciting whatever happens!
It used to be a free mystery tour before 11pm – £2 after – but now it costs £2 from 10pm onwards. It’s still good value for money though!
Parking: There’s plenty of parking round the back in the Ashby Place car park.

Bailando tonight with DALE Afro Latin Entertainment upstairs at Drift was the best yet – just kept on dancing until legs my went wobbly! Thank you Edyta, Sabina, Beata, Goreti, Beata, Nikolett, Renata, Paulina, Madalina and many other lovely ladies for my beautiful dances tonight! Who’s coming to El Grande London Friday night?
